This is not the film history you know

This is not the film history you know. With Another Story, we and our European partners are making documentary films by women visible again, films that were overlooked for far too long.

Some directors have vanished from the archives, even though their films should have been canon long ago. These are exactly the ones we are bringing back into the light. Another Story is a Creative Europe MEDIA funded project dedicated to documentary cinema by women directors of the 20th and 21st centuries, and we are proud to be part of it.

Another Story is an initiative by the HER Docs Foundation, the Balkan Documentary Center, Cineuropa, Festival dei Popoli and The Good Media Network (Doxumentale), in partnership with the Eye Filmmuseum, Loreley Films and Alphapanda, funded by Creative Europe MEDIA. Over two years, we bring audiences together through curated programmes, double screenings, Wikipedia workshops, critics’ labs and panel discussions, and we ask: who is remembered, who is made visible?

At the Doxumentale we screened three films that deserve to be seen: “Ich denke oft an Hawaii” by Elfi Mikesch, “The Woman’s Greatest Value is Her Silence” by Gertrud Pinkus, and “Road of Brotherhood and Unity” by Maja Weiss. Films that offer another gaze on their subjects and on storytelling itself.

For TGMN, Another Story is more than a programme. We lead the communication for the entire project, which shows what we do best: shaping European collaborations, securing funding and building audiences across borders.
