It is no coincidence that we placed this evening in the heart of the city. When the question is what documentary film means for democracy and truth, it should happen at the Rotes Rathaus, where Berlin is governed.
On 14 February 2025, our guest was Mstyslav Chernov, the Ukrainian journalist and director whose Oscar-winning film “20 Days in Mariupol” shook the world. We spoke with him about the power of documentary film, about the resilience of the people of Ukraine, and about his new film “2000 Meters to Andriivka.” One sentence of his stayed with us and became the leitmotif of the evening: this is about real people, real faces, real lives, not about bargaining chips and not about lines on a map.
