I firmly believe that a well-told story can change the course of a life, sometimes even the course of a nation. And nowhere is that clearer than in the fight against corruption. A film that is distributed strategically, to media, policymakers, NGOs and the public, can drive investigations, trigger reforms and make sure the names of victims are not forgotten.
That is why, at the Doxumentale, we built a dedicated programme together with Transparency International and the International Anti-Corruption Conference (IACC): seven carefully selected films about the global power of corruption and the power of truth. Films for Transparency, the IACC initiative, is the world’s first documentary festival focused exclusively on corruption, and our programme was our contribution to this shared cause.
One thing matters deeply to me here: ethical filmmaking. Telling these stories often means bringing whistleblowers, activists and affected communities in front of the camera, and we treat that responsibility with care. We celebrate filmmakers who approach their protagonists not as sources but as partners.
This partnership shows how we work: we build thematic programmes with strong international partners and give films the frame in which they can truly move something. And it continues.
